CIRCLE CONCEPT

The Concept

I made my first mandala in winter 1999. This was the first occasion when I abandoned the target oriented view of creating a specific result and allowed myself to be taken over by the liberating sensation of the joy of painting.

'The straightforward meaning of the mandala is a circle. In rituals it used as a yantra, a tool of contemplation. It is supposed to help concentration by orienting the mind through ever decreasing circles toward the center', says C.G. Jung in his book entitled Mandala.

While creating my mandalas, I always proceeded from the perimeter towards the center.

This in fact is analogous with guiding the mind to single focus. I use the term "Circle Concept" for creating objects with structural similarities akin the ancient ones. After all: EVERYTHING IS A MANDALA. The whole Universe - and all else.
